The International Trademark Association (INTA) recently hosted a webinar focusing on the key reforms introduced by China’s revised Trademark Law. The session brought together leading Chinese trademark practitioners to discuss the practical implications of the new legislation, attracting nearly 150 professionals from around the world.

Sue Gui, Partner at Chang Tsi & Partners and Chair of the China Subcommittee of INTA’s Anti-Counterfeiting Committee, was invited as a speaker and delivered a presentation on “Penalties and Anti-Counterfeiting Measures.” She provided insights into the revised law’s impact on trademark enforcement, particularly regarding administrative and criminal coordination, electronic evidence preservation, damages claims and liability for abusive litigation.

During the session, Sue highlighted that the revised Trademark Law further strengthens the connection between administrative enforcement and criminal proceedings by improving mechanisms for case referral and cooperation between authorities. The new framework also enhances support for collecting, copying, and preserving electronic evidence, providing rights holders with more effective tools to combat online and increasingly sophisticated infringement activities.
